Some Top eBay Selling Tips to Get You Started Selling on eBay

You can rid yourself of unwanted household goods and clothing and bring yourself an influx of cash using a few simple eBay selling tips.  The internet has allowed eBay and Paypal bring together buyers and sellers from all over the world.  Buyers can make money on eBay by listing the item they wish to cash in on.

You list your item by first deciding which keywords you will use to attract potential buyers.  If you listen to any of my eBay selling tips, this one is key.  A lot of people do not look up the main words they use in their auction titles to see if any other auctions show up using the same words.  If no one else shows up when searching for what you think is your main keyword, try another.  You need to use terms in your title that people are looking for and that other sellers are using too.  That is a true sign that you WILL get some traffic to your listing.  A good choice of keywords is important because it will increase the chances of your item popping up when people are searching for specific goods.  None of the rest of my eBay selling tips are going to help much if you do not nail down this first one!

The best way to learn to sell on eBay is by becoming familiar with the site by searching for similar items to the one you initially want to sell. Read the listings that are created and pay close attention to the facts that are included in the write-up.  If you don’t have anything ready to sell, look for some items that interest you and study every element of the auction from the photos to the time the auction ends to the details in the item description and the shipping costs.

Even though this video is from an eBay Ireland seller, it is the same you will find on all eBay sites.  Great video!

One of the top eBay selling tips is to be sure your information is completely accurate and honest.  If your item has any flaws at all it is important to mention these in the listing. This will ensure that anyone bidding on the goods is getting what they expect if they win the auction. Once you are familiar with other listings, you can create your own.  One eBay tip is that you should include the color, size and condition of any clothing items that are offered.  Household goods and sporting goods should include a full description that mentions the manufacturer, in what year the item was made, what it is used for and the condition.  Any problems or imperfections must be listed so that the bidders are 100% aware of the product condition.

How to Use Photos in Your eBay Auction Listing

One of the most important eBay selling tips is to include an awesome photo presentation of the item you are selling.  This will require you to have a digital camera that takes sharp, clear photographs.  Posting a photograph that shows your item in the best possible way can help increase the number of bids you receive.  I prefer to show my items using many photos and taken from all angles.  I take top, bottom, front, back and side photos showing all details if the item warrants it. When the item description and photos are posted, you next need to think about auction starting prices.  These include thinking about the lowest possible price you want to receive for the item, starting at an attractive price to encourage bidding, and what price you are hoping to receive as your final selling price.  You can set a minimum amount that you will accept for an item, but this is usually only done if an item is of considerable value.  Everyday items do not usually have a minimum bid (reserve) requirement. Postage is another consideration when listing an item with eBay.

Some auction postage eBay selling tips include offering the minimum amount necessary to send the item to the buyer, offering a multiple item discount on shipping, and offering the buyer free shipping.  Any of these discounts can help increase your sales.  It is important to calculate the shipping costs that you will pay when mailing an item.  This ensures that you do not lose money on the shipping costs.  You want to be sure that the buyer covers the entire cost of shipping their purchase.  Sometimes, for higher value items, that I know I am going to make good money on, I will use a flat shipping cost and eat the difference if it actually costs more.  I do this as a convenience for the buyer and to help sell the product.

Knowing What Time to Sell on eBay

Certain items sell well at specific times of the year so care should be taken in when you list an item.  People sometimes purchase a large quantity of sale products and offer them on eBay. People searching for auctions often do so ahead of the times they will actually be using the product.  Parents may search for baseball bats at the end of the baseball season or several months before the next season in anticipation of their child needing another bat.

Sometimes, and this is one of my favorite eBay selling tips, the best time to list an item such as sporting equipment is right at the end of the season that sport is traditionally being played.  It is also a great time to grab some good deals and then save those items and sell them at the beginning of the following season! Clothing items can get an increased price if the timing is right too.  Prom dresses and bridesmaid gowns typically sell well in the late winter and early spring so they can arrive just in time for prom season.  Winter coats, snow boots, skis, snowboards, and ski pants sell well in the fall or during the winter season when they are needed.  But again, consider purchasing some of these items at the end of winter so you can resell them at the height of the following winter.

So that’s just a few of my eBay tips for selling on eBay.  As an eBay seller or business owner be sure to browse around the site and find some more of the golden eBay selling tips that I have in store for you!
